It's doing them<\/span> <strong style=\"background-color: transparent\">without the right tools<\/strong> <span style=\"background-color: transparent\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">Here are the<\/span> <strong style=\"background-color: transparent\">3 most common mistakes<\/strong> <span style=\"background-color: transparent\">I see in school inclusion (ASD and developmental\/language difficulties) and, above all,<\/span> <strong style=\"background-color: transparent\">how to correct them with micro-adjustments<\/strong> <span style=\"background-color: transparent\">without starting a war.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">Before we begin: inclusion is not \"just sitting in the classroom\"<\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">True inclusion is not measured by the chair.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">It is measured by this:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">Does he participate (even if it's with support)?<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">Do you have access to the same activity (adapted if necessary)?<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">Is his dignity protected (without exposing him, without isolating him)?<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">Does it reduce sensory load and increase comprehension?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">If the answer is no, it's not inclusion. It's something else.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">Error 1: Disguised segregation (physical presence, real exclusion)<\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">This mistake is very common and often comes with good intentions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">The child is in the classroom, yes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">But:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">at a separate table,<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">with another token,<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">with another activity,<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">with an adult attached as a \u201cshadow\u201d,<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">without real interaction with the group.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">That's not inclusion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">It is<\/span> <strong style=\"background-color: transparent\">exclusion with physical presence<\/strong> <span style=\"background-color: transparent\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">Clear signs that it's happening<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">He always does different tasks than everyone else.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">She never participates in assemblies, readings, or projects.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">The support becomes a \"bubble\": it protects him so much that it separates him.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">What to do (without confrontation)<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">He asks for a change of approach:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong style=\"background-color: transparent\">Same activity, different access.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong style=\"background-color: transparent\">Same overall goal, different entry level.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">Examples of real-world adaptation:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">If the group writes 5 sentences, your child can choose between 2 options and paste pictograms.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">If the group reads a text, your child can work on key vocabulary with images.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">If the group is doing a project, your child can have a specific role (distributing, gluing, pointing, choosing).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">Useful phrase for tutoring:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">\u201cI don\u2019t want her to do anything else. I want her to do<\/span> <em style=\"background-color: transparent\">the same thing<\/em> <span style=\"background-color: transparent\">, with support.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">Error 2: not adapting anything (and calling it \u201cequality\u201d)<\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">\u201cThis is what we do in this class. If you can\u2019t do it, you\u2019ll adapt.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">That's not inclusion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">That's<\/span> <strong style=\"background-color: transparent\">neglect<\/strong> <span style=\"background-color: transparent\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">Equality is not about treating everyone the same.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">Inclusion is<\/span> <strong style=\"background-color: transparent\">giving everyone what they need to access<\/strong> <span style=\"background-color: transparent\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">Micro-adaptations that change everything (and don't break the class)<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">You don't need a giant plan. You need 3\u20135 sustained adjustments.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong style=\"background-color: transparent\">Visual structure:<\/strong> <span style=\"background-color: transparent\">simple timetable with 4\u20136 blocks.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong style=\"background-color: transparent\">Anticipation:<\/strong> <span style=\"background-color: transparent\">give 2 minutes' notice before a change.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong style=\"background-color: transparent\">One-step instructions:<\/strong> <span style=\"background-color: transparent\">one instruction at a time.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong style=\"background-color: transparent\">Limited choice:<\/strong> <span style=\"background-color: transparent\">\u201cDo you start with A or B?\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong style=\"background-color: transparent\">Pause time:<\/strong> <span style=\"background-color: transparent\">2\u20133 minutes to regulate and return.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">If the child understands what is happening, the anxiety decreases.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">If anxiety decreases, learning increases.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">Mistake 3: Not preparing the other children (and then being surprised by the rejection)<\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">Colleagues aren't born knowing everything.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">If no one explains it to them, they interpret it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">And when they do perform, sometimes they reject.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">True inclusion is also<\/span> <strong style=\"background-color: transparent\">about educating the group<\/strong> <span style=\"background-color: transparent\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">What does work (and is respectful)<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">It's not about exposing your child.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">It's about normalizing differences.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">A simple classroom script (2 minutes):<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">\u201cIn this class, we all learn differently.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">\u201cSome brains need more time, more calm, or more visual aid.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">\u201cIf someone covers their ears or needs a break, it\u2019s not unusual. It\u2019s a way of taking care of themselves.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"background-color: transparent\">\u201cHow do we help?
