The data confirms it: every year there are more children diagnosed with autism in our schools.
According to the latest report from the Ministry of Education , published on May 26, 2025, the number of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) has increased by almost 400% in the last 13 years , going from 19,023 in the 2011-2012 school year to 91,877 students in 2023-2024.
📍 In Catalonia alone, there are more than 18,800 students with autism , followed by Andalusia, Madrid, and the Valencian Community.

This increase tells us many things: better detection , greater social awareness , but also a system that urgently needs to adapt to this new reality.
What are these data telling us?
- 31% of students with special educational needs have autism , being the largest group.
- There is a clear majority of boys (81%) , but the number of girls diagnosed is also growing.
- Educational inclusion is progressing: most of these students are in mainstream schools , not in special education.
- Significant challenges remain in detection, care and support resources .
How to support from home, school, or therapy?
From our experience with the VICON Method , we know that there are concrete steps that can make a big difference:
1. Observe without waiting for the diagnosis to tell the whole story
Sometimes the signs are clear: poor eye contact, limited language, repetitive play, or difficulty relating.
VICON Tip: A confirmed diagnosis isn't required to begin intervention. Early stimulation can begin with daily activities, songs, and shared games.
2. Create predictable and friendly environments
Children with ASD need to know what is going to happen, how, with whom and for how long .
At VICON, we use structured music videos that anticipate routines, teach social norms, and reinforce visual communication.
3. Adapt the pace, do not lower expectations
True inclusion happens when teaching is done with personalized support , at each child's pace, without giving up their potential.
At the VICON Method, we combine music, video modeling, and active pedagogy to achieve just that: connecting with children through their most motivating channels.
4. Provide emotional support to families
This increase in diagnoses also means that many families are beginning a journey that can be confusing or lonely.
At VICON, we include practical training and therapeutic support , because we know that you can't care for a child without first caring for their environment.
And now what?
The Ministry's data is clear: autism is no longer a rare occurrence in classrooms. It's an everyday reality that requires training, tools, and community .
At the VICON Method, we're committed to a different way of teaching, stimulating, and communicating. A way that comes from the heart, is based on science... and reaches children through music.
